In Britain, it is considered a wedding drink and the best cure for a hangover, in France it is served for brunch. The golden yellow hue of the cocktail resembles a mimosa flower, which in Russia is associated with the eighth of March, and a light pleasant taste instantly creates a festive mood.

History reference. According to one version, the Mimosa cocktail appeared in 1925 in the bar of the Paris Ritz hotel. Its author is the legendary bartender Frank Meyer, about whom Hemingway wrote: "Mixologist, psychologist, ceremonial master, confidant and friend." In addition to orange juice and champagne, the composition included orange liquor on Grand Marnier cognac, which at that time was the official drink of all the Ritz hotels.

According to another version, the Mimosa recipe in 1921 was invented by the bartender of the London club “Bucks” McGarry. In England, the cocktail is still called "Buck’s Fiz." Once, a visitor wanted to get a fashionable Venetian Bellini cocktail (a mixture of champagne with peach puree). Not finding peaches, the bartender proposed his own version, which in taste and color resembled Bellini.

Classic Mimosa cocktail

The International Barmen Association (IBA) recipe contains only two ingredients: champagne and orange juice, which are mixed in equal parts.

Composition and proportions:

  • champagne (sparkling wine) - 40 ml,
  • freshly squeezed orange juice - 40 ml,
  • ice in cubes - 50 grams,
  • orange zest (or slice) - 5 grams.

1. Fill a glass of champagne (called "flute") with ice, wait 2-3 minutes and throw out the ice. An alternative cooling option is to place the flute for several minutes in the freezer.

2. Pour cold orange juice into a glass.

3. Add champagne and mix with a spoon.

4. Top with orange zest or slice. The cocktail is ready!

Alternative recipe "Mimosa"

Fans of stronger cocktails will like it, because in addition to traditional ingredients, it contains orange liquor.

  • orange liquor - 10 ml,
  • sugar - 1 teaspoon,
  • orange juice - 50 ml,
  • champagne - 100 ml.
With orange liquor

1. Pour sugar on a platter. Moisten the edges of the glass with water and dip them in sugar to make a rim.

2. Pour liquor, juice and champagne into the glass, then mix well.

- - You can add crushed ice - frappe to the cocktail. To make it, grind ice cubes in a blender or put ice in a plastic bag and break it with a kitchen hammer.

- - You can add Grenadine syrup to the Mimosa cocktail. You can cook it yourself by mixing sugar syrup and pomegranate juice.

- - If instead of orange juice you mix lemon or lime juice with champagne, add crushed ice, then you will get a Mimosa Super cocktail.

Step cooking

  1. Pour 200 ml of orange juice into ice molds. Freeze it.
  2. When the juice freezes, remove it from the molds. Put ice in a glass carafe.
  3. Pour it with champagne (400 ml).
